Kārlis Bergs is a Latvian American filmmaker based in Brooklyn, NY, with an MFA from CalArts, where he developed a deep interest in the intersection of art, science, and documentary form. His feature documentary Weeping Rocks premiered at IDFA 2025, where it was nominated for the First Feature Award and the FIPRESCI Award. The film received support from the U.S. National Science Foundation Grant and the Allan Sekula Social Documentary Grant, and was selected for the Ji.hlava New Visions Forum.

His second feature, Water Into Land (co-directed, in post-production), was developed with support from the Creatives Rebuild New York Artist Employment Grant (2022). As an editor, Bergs cut Family Portrait, directed by Lucy Kerr, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival (2023). His short documentary The Threshold (2020) premiered at Riga IFF and screened at the Tacoma Film Festival, among others.
